How are you all? I am well, still teaching some of the children in reception – we have been learning about mini-beasts this week. The children are very nice, but I do wish everything was normal and I was teaching all of you!

I am very excited about next Monday (20th July) and I hope lots of you can make it into school! Remember to ask an adult to phone or email school and let us know if you can make it in.

Can you believe it is nearly the end of the year? You are soon all going to be in year 3. How strange does that seem? I hope you do something nice in your summer holiday to celebrate how grown up you are getting!

We are continuing to follow the Oak Academy website. Oak Academy has stopped at week 11, and do not have any lessons for this week. Instead have a look at the work for week one.

https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/year-2

In literacy – week 1 – writing instructions and a reading comprehension based on the Firework Maker’s Daughter.

Maths – week 1 – identifying 2D and 3D shapes and looking for features, including right angles and symmetry.

Science – week 1 – learning about light

Humanities – week 1 – learning about the Shang dynasty

Creative – week 1 – investigating colours

If you have finished the Oak Academy lesson and would like to do more over the summer, you could have a look at the lessons on BBC bitesize. Here is one about division and grouping –

Hello year 2!

I hope you have had another great week. I do miss seeing all of your wonderful faces! If you haven’t heard already we have a special day that all year 2 children can come into school, so that we can see each other one more time before the summer holidays. On Monday 20th July, year 2 and year 3 only are invited into school. (Year 4 and year 5 will be in school on the Tuesday.) You will be split into two groups and will spend half the day with me and half the day with another teacher. I am really looking forward to it and would really love to see all of you there!

In the meantime, remember if you have done any work to email it in. I was delighted to be sent in some beautiful paintings this week. Thank you! office@stgabrielsprimary.co.uk

We are continuing to follow the Oak Academy website. You should be up to week 11 already!

https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/year-2

In literacy – You will continue to find out about The Odyssey. This is a strange and wonderful adventure story from Ancient Greece. Can you believe what Circe did to Odysseus and his crew last week? Turning them into pigs, my goodness! This week they has to avoid the call of the sirens otherwise he will crash his boat into the rocks!

In maths you are continuing to look at multiplication. Each day you will look at different strategies for finding the multiples of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10. I wonder what strategies you will like best.

In Science, you will continue to look at space, this week finding out how space was discovered, and famous scientists that used clever maths and inventions to find out about it. You might even find out about some things that they got wrong! The creative activity this week is making a rain-stick using recycled materials. I love these instruments as they are very peaceful, but I am not sure we need more rain right now!

Stay safe and look after yourselves,

Ms Page

Did you see all that lightening and wind and rain! I love a good thunderstorm, how about you?

I hope you are all doing well and have been having a go at the work that is set.

If not, you will have started work on The Odyssey, and continue look at this with the week 9 work. This week you will be looking at conjunctions and subheadings. I know you all can use these amazingly in your writing!

This week’s maths is continuing to look at adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers. You are all amazing at this and it should be good practice for you.

In RE there is another lesson about Judaism. In Science, you will continue to look at space, this week thinking about how Earth rotates. The creative activity this week will be making animals using egg cartons.

Hello year 2!

I hope you are all continuing to stay well – Hasn’t the weather been windy recently! I hope no one got blown away! This week I have been in school, teaching some of the children in reception. It is very strange with such a small group and everyone having to stay 2 meters away from each other. It has really made me miss our class and all of your lovely faces. I hope to see you again soon, in the meantime perhaps you would like to send some pictures of things that you have been doing – send them to the school email: office@stgabrielsprimary.co.uk

8th June 2020

Hello year 2!

I hope you are all well and staying safe. I am so proud of you all for being here and trying to do some work from home. It must feel so hard being stuck at home all this time, but know that you are helping our key workers and vulnerable people by doing so. I makes me remember when we learnt about Florence Nightingale and all the work she did to keep her patients clean and well.

We are continuing to follow the Oak Academy, here is the link https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/year-2

In literacy this week, you have a choice. If you liked the story from last week – The Firework Maker’s Daughter, continue with this work by looking at week 4. If you would prefer a new story, go to week 7 where you will find some work based on The Odyssey, which is a story from Ancient Greece.

This week’s maths is all about addition and subtraction. It includes some word problems and adding 2 digit numbers.

In RE there are lessons about Judaism. In Science, you will be looking at the planets in our solar system. There is also a creative activity, making a toy car.

As always, I would love to see some of the lovely work you have been doing and things you have been making – email school: office@stgabrielsprimary.co.uk

1st June 2020

Hello year 2!

I hope you are enjoying this lovely weather and making the most of the local parks and outside areas! This week I have continued to play many board games and I have started doing some sketching and painting.

From this week onward, we will be following the Oak Academy work. Follow this link to see the work for this week. https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/year-2

The literacy work is based on The Firework Maker’s daughter. You may choose to start with work from week 4, as this is where they started reading the story.

In maths this week, we are looking at measuring. We start by looking at measuring temperature and then go on to estimating and measuring volume in both litres and millilitres.

In foundation, there are lessons about the Shang dynasty and Fu Hao. In science, there are lessons about light. You could also choose to practice some Spanish, in preparation for year 3 when you will start learning Spanish in school.

As always, I would love to see some of the lovely work you have been doing and things you have been making – email school: office@stgabrielsprimary.co.uk

Week 7

Hello class 2!
How is your week going? Mine is going ok. I have been doing some quizzes with friends and family and was set a scavenger hunt this week! Have you done any scavenger hunts? They are quite fun – you have list of things like one round thing, one thing that makes a noise, etc. and you have to look around your house to find things that fit all the descriptions on the list.
This week the work is based on the story “Carla’s Sandwich” by Debbie Herman. I think we have listened to this one in class, it is all about some funny sandwiches that Carla likes to make! If you like this story about strange ingredients, you might also like Georges Marvellous Medicine, by Roald Dahl.
I’ve given you a poetry challenge this week – to write a cinquain. I wonder how you will get on!
Creative curriculum and science are all about food this week, with a science experiment about putting salt and sugar onto slices of cucumber. I haven’t had a chance to try this yet, so I would love to see your results! I know you all loved our landscapes project, back in September, and I have found a website where you can pretend that you are at some of the landscapes we learned about. You could have a picnic lunch at the shard or play a game of cards in front of the Houses of Parliament! I particularly like watching the whole day sped up.
Pictograms in maths this week and a fun adding and subtracting game.
Remember you can let me know how you get on via the school’s email address: office@stgabrielsprimary.co.uk

Hope to see you all soon, and in the meantime keep safe and happy!
Ms Page.
