Monday 13th July 2020

Hello Year 4, I hope you have had another great week. No long now until the end of the academic year! We have been really busy at school this week, despite the weather we have managed to spend a good amount of time in the garden which has been glorious. I’m sure most of you are looking forward to the summer holidays and returning to school in September.

This week you will continue to access your lessons through Oak National Academy. The lessons only go up until week 11 so this week we would like you to visit week 1’s work.

English: This week the focus is ‘Poetry’

You will be learning about the features of poetry; similes, metaphors and onomatopoeia. You will also be learning about expanded noun phrases.

Maths: Your focus this week is ‘Area and Perimeter’. You have covered this already, so this week you should be consolidating these skills.

Science: You will be learning about light and where it comes from.

History: You will be learning how the life of Henry VIII.

Music: This week you will be learning how to find the pulse in a piece of music.

Monday 6th July 2020

Hello Year 4, I hope you have had another great week. I can’t believe it’s nearly the end of the academic year and very shortly you will be in Year 5!

I’m very excited to let you know that Year 4 and Year 5 and been invited into school on Tuesday 21st July so that we can see each other one more time before the summer holidays. On Tuesday you will be split into two groups and will spend half the day with me and half the day with another teacher. I am really looking forward to it and would really love to see all of you there!

English: This week the focus is ‘Haikus.’

A Haiku Poem is a traditional Japanese art form which consists of three lines. The first and last line of the Haiku poem has five syllables and the middle line has seven syllables. It isn’t a traditional rhyming poem so the lines in a Haiku poem don’t need to rhyme. Please email the office of your great poems!

Maths: Your focus this week is ‘Reasoning with patterns and sequencing’. You will be building on your knowledge from last week about identifying and completing patterns. Good luck! Don’t forget to practise your times tables every day.

Science: You will be learning about the adaptations of nocturnal animals.

Spanish: You will be learning how to describe your physical appearance in Spanish.

Art: This week you will be learning how to create an optical illusion: Anamorphic Letter

Hello Year 4, I hope you and your families are all doing well and survived the heatwave last week. It was very hot at school but we all had a lovely time completing our work in the shade in the playground.

This week you will continue to access your lessons through Oak National Academy:

English: This week the focus is ‘Character descriptions’. You will be learning to identify the features of this genre and you get the opportunity to write your own at the end of the week.

Maths: Your focus this week is ‘Shape and measures’. You will be learning how to compare and order angles, identify right, acute and obtuse angles as well as solve word problems applying all your new learning.

Science: You will continue learning about light. This week you will investigate some uses of light.

RE: This week you will be learning about the 5 pillars of Islam and the Quran.

Monday 15th June 2020

Hello Year 4, I hope you and your families are all doing well – the weather last week was a little gloomy so fingers crossed this week it is brighter so we can continue visiting parks and going for walks (or bike/scooter rides).

I have been in school this week teaching a lovely group of Year 1 pupils. It certainly is a change from the older children J

Science: You will continue learning about light. This week you will explore refraction.

Summer 2 – Week 2- Beginning 8th June 2020

 

Good morning Year 4, I hope you have all had a great weekend. Fingers crossed that the weather improves this week so we can all enjoy the sunshine J

I hope you have all been using the Oak National Academy to access the home learning activities and have aimed for at least 30 minutes of reading every day as well as practising your timetables daily.

If you are completing the activities in your workbooks, always aim to use joined up handwriting and ensure the presentation is to a high standard.

English: The focus this week is creating your own stories. You all have wonderful imaginations, so I look forward to reading some exciting stories on your return.

Maths: This week you will be exploring area and perimeter. We have covered this topic before, so hopefully you have remembered how to find the area and perimeter of various shapes.

Science: Within the topic of LIGHT, you will be learning about reflection.

History: You will be learning about Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn, Pope Clement VII and Thomas Wolsey.

Happy Tuesday Y4, I hope you and your family have had a great half term break.

We have now begun the last half term of the academic year and in no time it will be the summer holidays.

You have all done incredibly well with your learning from home activities and I am sure when you return to school you will have some great work to share with me.
