Modern Foreign Language – Spanish

Our aim is to give children a high-quality language education that will deepen their understanding of the world whilst also equipping them with the skills and confidence to interact within it, certainly within Spanish speaking countries.  We aim to achieve this by ensuring that all children are able to speak Spanish with increasing confidence and fluency and to continually improve the accuracy of their pronunciation and intonation through weekly lessons.  As children progress through KS2, we aim to provide them with the skills to write sentences in Spanish for different audiences and purposes.  Our goal is that our pupils leave St Gabriel’s at the end of KS2 with a solid foundation in Spanish, upon which to build on in KS3.

Spanish is taught through speaking and listening and through fun activities including for example playing games, singing songs and watching video clips. Spanish is also integrated through out the week, such as in counting, days of the week, greeting, calling the register.
